Estate vehicles are selling like hotcakes at present and Kia has introduced the Cee'd SW to the sector. The space race has just got even more interesting.
The Cee’d SW is made in Zilina, Slovakia and has a starting price of under £13,000 for the entry-level model. It has the same seven year warranty that the five-door hatch comes with which is a great incentive for any prospective buyer. Green Credentials For The Kia Cee’d SWThe car driven on test was a 1.6 CRDi diesel engine, it emits 154g/km of CO2 but it should be pretty economical as the maker claims 43.5mpg on a combined cycle. The five door estate version of the Cee’d on test was priced (correct at time of going to press) from £14,995, while the entry level model will cost you from £12,995. Kia Cee’d SW StylingThe Kia Cee’d SW is the first ever estate car to be made by the Korean maker and it has succeeded in bringing a trendy looking estate car to the market. The Koreans seem to have looked at the French for flair – for example, the rear of the Cee’d SW is 407-esque with its sloped C-pillar. Interior Of The Korean EstateJumping into the Cee’d, the interior is just the same as its smaller sibling – the Cee’d five-door hatch. The car has been well put together and the plastics look solid and durable - always a desirable quality in a family car. All the switchgear is a practical size and within easy reach of the driver. On the GS model there’s even controls on the steering wheel so the driver’s hands never have to leave the wheel when using the stereo system. The Cee’d SW continues on the same theme as the five door hatch as the seats and plastics are made from good quality material just like the hatch equivalent. Practicality: The Ceed Estate CarThe Cee’d SW is a cracking alternative to the mainstream estate cars and surprisingly its bigger than two of europe’s biggest sellers. Surprisingly, it has more loadroom than both the Ford Focus and the Vauxhall Astra. Getting down to the figures – with rear seats in place there’s 534-litres of space, and folded flat this reveals a decent 1,664 litres of space. For those needing more, the Cee’d SW has a bundle of storage solutions , which should be enough to hold all their bits and bobs. With a seven year bumper-to-bumper warranty on this car reliability is not going to worry any potential buyer. Under the bonnet of the Kia Cee’d SWPower comes from a 113bhp 1.6 CRDi diesel engine. So what can it do when timed? The Cee'd SW can get from zero to 62mph in 11.7 seconds and has a top speed of 116mph. With 255Nm of torque negotiating slower traffic is a breeze. On The RoadThe Cee'd SW makes motorway driving painless as the car is comfortable on long journeys as it glides along. When pushed along outer urban roads the car copes surprisingly well, the rear of the car is stiffer than the five-door hatch and you will feel more bumps in the road but the car has a well weighted steering and turns in when you want it to do so. PriceThe test car was priced from £14,995, as it was the GS trim level but you can get an entry level SW model from £12,995. OwnershipSo what about owning a Kia Cee’d? One of the main incentives is the maker’s seven-year warranty on the car. The Cee’d SW has got loads of kit and costs only £700 more than the five door hatch in the same trim. For those looking for a load lugger at a great price, and a reassuring seven year warranty, then the Kia Cee’d should be on the tick list.
