Gadget Laden, Chunky Design, Pure Peugeot

This is one of the more quirky crossovers on the market as it has been derived from the Peugeot Partner van. Under the bonnet was the 1.6-litre diesel for a test drive.

Tailored to those families that have sports equipment and need a vehicle that is practical but at the same time has an urban look to it- the Partner Tepee Outdoor was put to the test.

The test route included a mix of motorway, city streets and country roads so that terrain was as diverse as possible.

Peugeot Partner Tepee Outdoor has a chunky design

From the exterior the Peugeot Partner Tepee Outdoor has a chunky look to it , it lacks the finesse of some of the other cars on the French maker’s range but it has an appeal all of its own.

On sale now in the UK, the Peugeot Partner Tepee Outdoor starts from £15,305. And it’s pretty green with it, as it emits 147g/km of CO2, which means the Partner Tepee slots into a tax band of C and £120 of VED per annum.

Interior of the Peugeot Partner Tepee Outdoor

Jumping in, the driver will be be pleasantly surprised. The Partner Tepee Outdoor is well finished and very well equipped with technology. For a car that has been derived from a light commercial van, the build quality is first class.

The average buyer wouldn’t have a clue that this car has been derived from the new partner van – a great accolade that Peugeot should be proud of. To add to this, the plastics used are of high quality and seem durable which is always a good thing when this car will be tailored at active families.

The switch-gear and gauges are within easy reach of the driver which always help to make for a good driving experience. Finally all the shut lines fit neatly together and the doors shut with a quality-sounding thud.

How practical is the new Peugeot?

Very is the short answer. Out of ten, it would have to get a high eight.

The Partner Tepee Outdoor is packed with places to store all those goodies that are needde on any journey - whether it be the trip to the shops or the two-week holiday. Not only is there room for two adults in the rear, one could easily get another average sized adult in the rear seat.

There are plenty of cubby-holes to place those nik-naks, but for those needing more storage solutions, the French maker has an answer, as the Partner Tepee Outdoor has even got drawers underneath the driver and passenger seats.

There’s always a need to store maps and torches in a convenient place, and Peugeot have thought ahead and included a full width front overhead storage shelf. For those really needing to pack everything for the two week holiday then the test car in Outdoor trim level is the best choice as it even comes with roof bars as standard to fit a roof-box on top.

The Partner Tepee Outdoor has everything covered when it comes to finding enough storage space for its occupants.

Diesel power plant gives our test car more than enough shove

Under the bonnet the Peugeot Partner Tepee Outdoor has a 1.6-litre diesel engine, offering 110bhp, which translates as 177lb ft of maximum torque – more than enough to pass slower moving traffic.

Performance figures are respectable as the Peugeot will get from 0-62mph in 14.3 seconds and has a top speed of 103mph. On the road the Tepee doesn’t feel sluggish or breathless when pulling away from a standing start or from traffic lights or roundabouts.

Ride and Handling

The Partner Tepee rode well and wasn’t upset by potholes or bumps in the road which is really quite impressive for this type of car. The Partner Tepee performed well on all sorts of roads that were thrown at it – whether it was motorways, city streets or B-roads the Peugeot covered the ground in a grown-up manner.

There was a little body roll when cornering but this is to be expected from such a high-sided car as this is. Peugeot claims it will do 50.4mpg on the combined cycle – a boon in these times of high fuel prices.

Safety is high on Peugeot’s list

Peugeot has not forgotten about safety and security either. The Partner Tepee Outdoor is packed with gadgets from ABS and EBA, which will brake in a safe and controlled manner. In the event of a crash occupants should be helped by the amount of airbags that have been equipped as standard – there’s a driver airbag, front passenger’s airbag plus side and curtain airbags as well.

It may well be one of the more quirky crossovers on the market but Peugeot has shown with this car that the chunky urban Partner Tepee could well be a hit with its unique looks and vast amounts of storage solutions.
