Czech this out! Skoda has unveiled the new Superb and is sure to attract many business drivers to the maker with its latest car.

According to the maker it’s a Superb car. The new Skoda Superb looks good on paper, it has a competitive price in its sector and the interior is luxurious surroundings while it has a wide range of engines to tempt a variety of drivers.

This car has also got an additional nifty feature as standard. For those who find parallel parking tricky, the Superb will actually park itself. Almost.

Interior of the Superb

The Superb is up against some stiff competition such as luxury German cars in the same sector of the car market. Skoda claims that the Superb is the most sophisticated Skoda ever built by the firm and from driving it, it certainly feels that it is made from the highest quality.

The interior is sophisticated, the dash and surrounding areas are made from upmarket materials. The materials are soft to touch while the dials give off a soft white glow when driving at night – this is a great idea as the driver does not get any dazzle from the dash lighting.

With the Skoda Superb starting from £15,490, BMW and Mercedes will be taking great interest on how the Skoda fares in the market place.

Practicality of the Skoda Superb

Practicality is high on the list, the Superb has oodles of room and the Czech engineers have made the car very easy to live with.

To make loading and unloading easy, the Superb has an all-new Twindoor variable boot facility – this means the car behaves like a saloon or a hatchback – how the car is loaded is up to the owner.

There is 565 litres of load capacity with the rear seats in position and with the seats folded load space increases to 1,670 litres.

Technological Advancements Of the Skoda Park Assist System

The Superb is one of the most technologically advanced cars on the market. It comes as standard with a feature called Park Assist. This system allows drivers to parallel park in complete confidence.

So how does it work?

Drive the Skoda Superb past a line of parked cars at a speed less than 19mph. If at any time when passing the parked cars the sensors pick-up that there is a space of around 6 metres from bumper to bumper, the driver will be informed by the electronic display.

It works like this – the Superb has to pass a line of parked cars at a speed less than 19mph. If the sensors acknowledge that the space is around 6 metres from bumper to bumper the driver is informed by the electronic display.

To engage Park Assist the driver should choose reverse gear and the car will slowly accelerate backwards. The driver then takes their hands off the wheel, the steering will take care of itself and turns on its pre-calculated trajectory – the parking manoeuvre finishes when the rear parking sensors make a long continuous tone.

This kit is a work of art and makes parallel parking a breeze.

The Superb Is Loaded With Safety Kit

To guide the driver in the dark, the Superb is equipped with CatVision lighting system, which incorporates LED’s into the headlining and makes looking for switches child’s play.

The new Superb scored five stars in the Euro NCAP testing for passenger protection, it has seven airbags as standard. All Superb models are fitted with ESP, ABS, and EBS (Electronic Braking System).

Skoda Superb Model On Test

With a choice of four petrol engines and three diesel power plants available, there’s plenty to pick from. On test the car driven was the 2.0-litre diesel unit with the DSG gearbox. The power plant has an output of 170bhp. The figures make for pleasant reading as this Superb can get from zero to 62mph in 8.8 seconds and it has a top speed of 137mph. The oil burning engine is very quiet and it only intrudes when revved out.

The Superb holds up quite well when driven enthusiastically. The car is a good all around package, it drives well and the engine has plenty of shove.
